The Grapes of Roth Merlot Long Island
A ruby garnet color the nose begins with black cherry, ripe plum, and blackberry with notes of violet, cocoa, cedar, and baking spice. On the palate, it’s plush dark fruit, cassis, plum, touches of mocha and dried herbs. The Grapes of Roth is the personal, small-production project of Roman Roth, longtime winemaker and partner at Wölffer Estate Vineyard. Roth launched the label in 2001, inspired by a garagiste-style philosophy of producing small quantities of distinctive, handmade wines that demonstrate the potential of Long Island vineyards.

Grape Profile: Merlot is known for its plush texture, ripe plum, and black cherry flavors, often showing notes of cocoa, vanilla, and soft herbal nuance. It typically offers smooth tannins and balanced acidity, making it both approachable and capable of aging.
Region Profile: Long Island is one of the most important cool-climate wine regions on the East Coast. Its vineyards extend along the narrow forks of eastern Long Island and are strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island Sound, and surrounding bays. This maritime environment moderates temperature extremes and extends the growing season, allowing Bordeaux varieties.
