Tenuta Scerscé Essenza Valtellina Superiore

Pouring a ruby red with garnet highlights with expressive aromas of plum, cherry, and baked berry compote with spice, rose petals, and earthy notes. Full of flavors of ripe red fruit and cherry jam with hints of hazelnut and licorice. Founded in 2008 by Cristina Scarpellini in mountainous Valtellina, Tenuta Scerscé farms steep, terraced vineyards in Teglio and Villa di Tirano. These scenic “rittochino” sites—often no larger than one acre—are sustainably managed on rocky soils.

Region: Lombardy

Appellation: Valtellina Superiore

Grape Profile: Nebbiolo is a noble grape variety native to Piedmont, renowned for producing complex and long-lived wines. It is characterized by its high acidity and tannins, which give structure and aging potential, along with its distinctive aromas of roses, red fruits, and earthy undertones.

Region Profile: Valtellina, tucked away in the far north of Lombardy, Italy, is one of the country’s most unique and dramatically beautiful wine regions. Carved into the Alpine slopes along the Adda River, this narrow valley stretches near the Swiss border and is home to some of the highest and steepest vineyards in Europe, many clinging to stone-walled terraces at 300–700 meters above sea level.

Pair with: Rich dishes like truffle risotto, tagliatelle with mushroom sauce, osso buco or braised meats. Aged cheeses like Parmesan, Pecorino, and Taleggio. Vegetarian dishes like eggplant Parmesan.
