Maximin Grünhaus Riesling Abtsberg Grosses Gewächs

Pale straw-gold color with aromas of lime, lemon zest, green apple, white peach, and pear, followed by white flowers, fresh herbs, wet stone, smoke, and crushed slate. The palate is dry with citrus and stone fruit flavors which transition into saline, smoky, and slate-driven mineral notes. Maximin Grünhaus is one of Germany's great historic Riesling estates. Located near Mertesdorf in the Ruwer Valley, its history stretches back more than a millennium and includes centuries of ownership by the Benedictine Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier.

Grape Profile: Riesling is a white grape variety celebrated for its high acidity and the diverse styles of wine it can produce. Riesling wines are known for their vibrant aromatics, exhibiting notes of green apple, citrus, peach, and often a unique petrol-like character with age.

Region Profile: The Ruwer is a small tributary valley of the Mosel. Its northerly location, steep slopes, cool growing conditions, and Devonian slate soils produce wines noted for their high acidity, floral delicacy, citrus purity, smoky minerality, and remarkable longevity. The combination of marginal climate and slate-covered slopes encourages slow ripening. Although officially incorporated into the broader Mosel region today, the Ruwer retains a distinctive identity
